Cool Cat

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Do you hear that? It's quiet. It's nap time in my house and I am sitting down with a nice warm cup of coffee and enjoying the peace and quiet. Sometimes it's the little things in life that make us so happy.

Today I have a card that I made with a couple of challenges in mind. I was hoping for a funky look but when I found the music note paper by DCWV Stack 7 I knew I had to use it. You may remember a couple of posts back I borrowed my neighbors Rock Princess cartridge. Well, I had so much fun using it that I decided to use my Cricut reward points and buy it. I think it's one of those cartridges that you may dismiss at first but if you really look at it there are a lot of images that you can incorporate into various boy/girl projects. The cat for example, I never thought I would use it. I don't have a cat, and I thought it was a silly image at first but when I saw Cas-ual Fridays was having a challenge to use a Pun I thought of the saying COOL Cat. I guess sometimes you need to think outside of the litter box. I know, I know soooo cheesy but that's me! So to spare you more cheesy lines, here is my card.

I think I may have my kids give this to my hubby for his birthday. He certainly is a Cool Cat. If not I will save it for another birthday. You can never have enough birthday cards, right?

Thinking of You

I recently found out that a close friend has breast cancer. It's been very difficult for her and her family. I wanted to show that I am thinking of her so I left this card and a tray of homemade brownies on her door step.

Big Girl

Today I have a sweet layout I made for my 2012 scrapbook. My daughter is offically potty trained. Can I get a whoop whoop! No more diapers!!!!! This MAJOR milestone deserves a special page in our 2012 scrapbook. I loved the sketch from Artful Delight, unfortunately I didn't have a chance to link up my project in time. I have three portrait style pictures of my daughter sitting on the potty. I think they will look perfect in the pink striped rectangles.

I added some bling to this project so I could enter it into the Getting Scrappy Challenge I also added Glossy Accents to the sentiment. It's the tag line from a diaper commerical, I'm a big kid now, except I changed it to I'm a Big Girl Now. I'm really happy with this layout. I'm a newbie to scrapbooking so this layout may seem very basic but I love it. The sketches help so much. I would never think of these layouts myself. Thanks for the wonderful design inspiration.

Peachy Keen Challenge

This post is much later than I had hoped. I was having some issues with blogger. Errrrr

Onto my Peachy Keen Challenge card. This week the challenge is to make a friendship card. Now that I have one set of Peachy Keen stamps I'm totally lovin' them. I had a couple of ideas for this challenge and here is the one I decided to go with. Not as cute a I had envisioned. I thought the little string that connected the mittens was a cute little add on. Remember the days when you wore mittens like that? I also decided to add some Stickles to the circle that says "Friend". I thought it gave it a snowball look.

Recipe

Card- The card is a premade card from Michael's measuring 5x 6.5
Die Cuts- I used the Simply Charmed cartridge for the mittens, the circles were cut with a punch and I used my Fiskars paper trimmer for the rectangle.Peachy Keen Stamps- Wide Eyed Kids Face AssortmentSentiment- "Friends" is from the Scrappy Moms stamp set Simple Sentiments. I covered up the Sweet portion of the sentiment. The bottom sentiment was created on my computer.

Papers- Recollections, Bazzill, My Mind's Eye Be Berry (won this paper pack)

Embellishments- GellyRoll pen for coloring in Peachy eyes and tongue. Stickles to make it look like a snowball, white yarn to connect the mittens and little pink rhinestones on the mitten bows and sentiment.

Belated Promise

I'm a little late with this post.  I promised pictures and recipe of my husband's Valentine day cookies.  These are his absolute favorite.  He had a good laugh when he saw his card and these cookies in a cute Valentine day box.  If you try the recipe let me know what you think.  Just be warned, they are absolutely delish and sure to put a smile on your face and extra weight on your booty!

Peanut Butter Squares
Recipe from Kathleen's Bake Shop Cookbook (one of my favorites)
3/4 cup firmly packed dark-brown sugar
1 pound (3 cups) confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups smooth peanut butter
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon butter

Directions
In a large bowl, and using an electric mixer, beat first four ingredients together until smooth and well blended.  Pat into ungreased 151/2 by 101/2 by 1 inch pan.  Roll flat on top with rolling pin.

Melt chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon butter in the top of a double boiler.  Spread over peanut butter mixture and cut into squares while chocolate is still warm and soft.

Chill for 15 minutes (if you can wait that long) and remove from pan.  These can last in the refrigerator for weeks.
 Yield 40 2-inch squares

They taste better than a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup!  Enjoy!

Look What I Found In My Mailbox

Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to see these guys in my mailbox.

My first set of Peachy Keen stamps!!!!!!  Wooohooo.  I'm so excited to say the least.  I decided to take a break from an etsy order and try out these bad boys.  I checked Peachy Keen's challenge blog and found this interesting challenge.
Create a project with this photo as inspiration.

I'm a fruit lover so this put a smile on my face.  I am ready for old man winter to leave and say HELLO to sunshine, warm weather and lots of fresh juicy fruit.  Good thing the hubby and I have a cruise to look forward to.  Planning a trip to a warm destination always makes the winter a little more bearable.  So with that in mind I created this card for the challenge.

My hubby loves pina colada's. I plan to give it to him this card before we leave for our cruise.  How many days until we leave???????

I am linking this post to the Peachy Keen Challenge. Better late then never.

Ohhhh and I think more of these stamps will be showing up in my mailbox.  They are super easy to use and I think they add so much personality to a project or card.

We Go Together Like Cookies and Milk Valentine

Happy Monday to you!  Tomorrow is Valentine's day so I wanted to share my Valentine card for my wonderful hubby.

I love it and I'm sure he will too.  I think he will like the peanut butter cup cookies that I'll be making to go along with the card.   They are his favorite.  I'll share the cookie pictures and recipe tomorrow but first here is the card recipe.

Card Base:  Elegant Edges welded with the gypsy.  I think the thing I like most about the gypsy is that I can make so many wonderful shape cards.  I think it makes the card unique.

Cartridges:  Elegant Edges, Create A Critter, Forever Young (cookie is really a flower)

Paper:  All scraps.  I'm on a mission to reduce my patterned scrap draw and I am slowly seeing the light!

Sentiment:  Computer

Ribbon from stash, Gelly Roll Pen, Pop Dots

Boy Scout Layout

When I saw the layout challenge on The Paper Variety I knew I wanted to participate.  I immediately thought of a page I've been meaning to do and this was the push I needed.  My son started boy scouts in the fall and I wanted to make a layout of his first uniformed meeting. He looked so stinkin' cute in the uniform, still does.  I didn't include pictures for privacy reasons.  Here is my ultra simple, ultra clean lay out.
The squares at the top say first time.

This picture shows the textures I added to some of the papers.  I used my cuttlebug folders, distressed stripes and tiny mosaics.
Recipe:
Papers:  Bazzill, DCWV The Guy Stack
Sentiments:  Stickers from stash, Boy Scouts cut from Baby Steps, welded on gypsy
Cartridges:  Baby Steps, Accent Essentials
Cuttlebug:  Distressed Stripes, Tiny Mosaics
Pops Dots

Valentine Day Countdown

I feel like it's been forever since I blogged.  I've been busy preparing for a home improvement.  Much of my time has been spent on pinterest looking at design, layout, and decorating ideas.  I love it!
Anyway, on to my Valentine day countdown. This year I decided to do a Valentine day countdown with the kids. Each day they get a special Valentine day treat. Here are two of the countdown items.
